aNARCHY rULES has many inspirations, and there have been many people who have supported and encouraged me.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank two in particular, who coincidentally (or possibly not) are also the first two subscribers to this channel.
(And if the channel grows, I might add thank yous to future new subscribers)
First, I want to confess the enormous debt that I owe to Andrew Hickey. Andrew is a brilliant writer and broadcaster, and has gained well-deserved renown for his podcast "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs" [https://500songs.com/]
Without Andrew this volume would not exist, not just for his immensely useful reading and guidance on e-publishing, but much more for all the brilliant thought and insights to be found in his guide to Grant Morrison's "Seven Soldiers": An Incomprehensible Condition [ISBN-10: 1447780027 – available from Lulu and on all good e-publishing platforms].
In a way, "before dawn" is as much a collage of ideas as Moore & O'Neill's "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is a collage of characters, and if you read Andrew's book – which you should – you'll see many of the same concepts.
Just not necessarily in the same order.
And then, more than anything, thanks to my better half, Alex, for sharing my love of "Doctor Who" and sharing his love of "The Avengers" with me.
That is, of course, the British Avengers, the seminal Sixties Spy-Fi, not the Marvel comic. (Mr Monkfish and Mr Sole appear – under noms de guerre, naturally – in one of the Tara King episodes.)
Alex writes at the Love and Liberty blog [https://loveandliberty.blogspot.com/] and describes himself as a committed Liberal and former Liberal Democrat policy maker – by which he means he used to be close to Paddy Ashdown and Charles Kennedy, and the historian Conrad Rusell, son of philosopher Bertrand Russell. Alex has passed on to me much about the philosophy and history of British Liberalism, which inevitably informs my workdview and my writing.
And thanks to Alex, he and I had the best wedding in the world – seriously, the secret is feed the guests before the speeches, and have a quiet breakroom for people to escape to.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy.
